[Rumor] Hotel Dusk Sequel Coming to DS in Japan Early Next Year

Evidence via retailer catalog, also Zangeki no Regenleiv possibly revealed.

Fans of the sketchy artstyle and brooding characters from Cing’s Hotel Dusk, may have another game to buy this winter (in Japan at least).  The new game “Last Window” appears to take place in the 1980’s.  So bust off that A-ha CD and get ready for some pointing and clicking.

“ Last Window: Mayonaka no Yakusoku (Last Window: Midnight Promise) is a sequel to CING's DS adventure game, Hotel Dusk, set in Los Angeles in the 1980s. It will apparently be out in Japan on January 14!"

Miyamoto Also Wanted Motion Control In A Nintendo DS

Earlier today, we reported that Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata told a Japanese newspaper that a motion sensor in the successor to the DS would be "necessary." That reminded me of something Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto told me in 2004.

Just days before the official start of the E3 gaming trade show that year, Nintendo's chief game designer provided me a private demonstration of the then unreleased Nintendo DS. He introduced me to the system's dual screens, touch screen and microphone. And he told me the feature that Nintendo omitted.

As I wrote in The New York Times back then:
Quote
To keep costs down, Mr. Miyamoto said, some features were left out of the DS. Maybe next time, he said, he will be able to include a tilt sensor for gyroscopic control. For now, he is focused on double screens.

Nintendo had experimented with tilt controls previously, including a motion sensor in the cartridge for the Game Boy's 2000 game Kirby Tilt 'N Tumble. In 2004 Nintendo would release Wario Ware Twisted, a Game Boy Advance game with a cartridge containing a rotation sensor.

Iwata told the Asahi Shinbun this week that a DS successor would need motion detection: "[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

Current Sony and Nintendo handhelds do not detect motion. The Apple iPhone does.

Just as some other long-discussed Nintendo projects such as Miis have come to fruition in recent years, now it seems that a motion-controlled Nintendo handheld may be upon us.

Kotaku has requested clarification on plans for a new motion-sensitive handheld and will update you if we find out more.

Analyst Predicts DS2 Very Soon
Another way Nintendo will trump the competition.

January 14, 2010 - The December 2009 Sales Review from Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) included the very interesting prediction that Nintendo would officially announce the DS2 within the next eight months.

The report states that Nintendo dominates the handheld market by staying one step ahead of the competition. It does this by "removing opportunity gaps" by transitioning between hardware earlier than competition can anticipate. For example, they replaced the GBA with the Nintendo DS earlier than expected.

While the report states that the new handheld will be announced within the next 8 months, it also predicts that the hardware will come to market in the next 15 months. It adds that the likelihood of this announcement shouldn't deter current consumers because the DS2 will likely be backwards compatible. Are you ready for the next DS or are you satisfied with the one you own?

Mega Man Zero Set for DS
Capcom bundles together all the Game Boy Advance titles.

January 15, 2010 - Following four Game Boy Advance installments in as many years, Zero went out of the spotlight as Mega Man himself starred in various installments for DS, Wii and other platforms. But Capcom is giving signs of a Zero revival.

In Japan today, the company announced Mega Man Zero Collection. This DS title bundles all four Game Boy Advance Mega Man Zero games in one package at one low price, 4,190 yen. That's cheaper than the individual Zero games cost at their release.

Aside from the promise of four full Mega Man platformers, it's unclear if players can look forward to any DS-exclusive bonuses. It also remains to be seen if Capcom will update the games to take advantage of the second screen.

Mega Man Zero Collection will hit Japan on April 22 under the name Rockman Zero Collection. A release outside of Japan has yet to be announced.

Download Beyonce's clothes in Style Savvy!

Nintendo may not have liked it enough to put a ring on it, but the company appreciated Beyoncé enough to continue its relationship with her. Players of Style Savvy will soon be able to download five outfits from the Deréon line, created by the actress/singer/dancer/best-video-of-all-time maker and her mother, designer Tina Knowles.

"Style Savvy is all about creativity and fashion, both of which are really important to me," says Beyoncé. "I love that I get to become a stylist and take over my own boutique, and it's so much fun to see some of my Deréon designs added to the mix."

Nintendo Lets You Play With Beyoncé's Clothes

Nintendo's partnership with pop diva Beyoncé comes to fruition, as five new pieces from her and her mother's Deréon fashion line become available for download in Style Savvy for the Nintendo DS.

Are you excited by the thought of your avatar wearing a Deréon Pop polo and "D's Studded" skinny jeans? Should you accent your booty in a pair of Sasha Fierce short shorts worn with D's ruffle cropped jacket, or do you go a little fancier with the "All Zipped Up" dress?

Why not wear them all? You can now, courtesy of the new Deréon fashions, now available in your copy of Nintendo's Style Savvy. I've half a mind to dig up my copy to see how Miss Michael looks in Beyoncé finery.
